# What the Loan Remembers

Sample essay

**Thesis:** A small debt weighs far more than its face value, because it decides what you can refuse.

**Allegory:** A single coin on the floor throws the shadow of a ship's anchor up the wall.

**Transformation:** false_shadow

**Why this one:** It alone shows the gap between what a loan looks like and what it does, in one glance.

**How the image carries the thesis:** The essay argues a small loan is heavy because of what it stops you refusing. The coin is drawn at its true size; the wall shows what it does. Nothing here says debt is evil, only that its weight is cast elsewhere.

**Cold read, before the note:** A stranger would say it shows: A small coin on a wooden floor throws a huge black anchor on the wall behind it. and that it argues: Even a little money can hold you down; what looks small is a dead weight.

**Rejected allegories:**
- A ladder with one rung made of padlocks. Says debt blocks progress, not that debt is secretly heavy.
- A house made of coins. Reads as wealth, the opposite of the thesis.
